The party last night

Monday, May 31st, 2004 at about 7:18 pm

I will never complain about the lack of guys in my life.

This weeked was a big AIESEC party .

We had a small vorspeil at Eirik and Daniel’s place with Trygve, Olli, John and myself. After which it was the AIESEC party and then went to this club called - I can’t remember now - on Aker brygge.

The music was really good ( as good as Blue) and we spent a lot of time giving points to different girls - having a good time and dancing a lot.

That is when I realized that I was there with the best looking guys in the whole place.

It made me smile real wide.. :) :)

But only for a moment, because soon after that, came the realization that I wasn’t just WITH these great guys -

Horror of horrors.. I had suddenly become just ‘one-of-the-guys! ‘

Sego Chan and me.

Monday, May 31st, 2004 at about 6:49 pm

I am very proud of myself today.

Sego Chan is still alive.

Tatsuki, my Japanese collegue was leaving for Japan with his wife and had a small problem. He didn’t know where to leave his 8 month old Prince
Charles cavalier Spaniel for three weeks.

I have always wanted to a dog. My family has had cows, chickens, parrot ( uncaged) cats, lots and lots of cats, a rabbit when I was young and even a small stray puppy. But none of the animal were really ours. They were just there. They needed a home and found a way in to our backyard and lived.

But this time, it was just different. When Halumi finally dropped her off at my place and left, I was shaking as badly inside as poor Sego Chan was on the outside.

I learnt a very important lesson.

It’s one thing to LIKE dogs. Its comepletey another thing to be responsible for them.

I have never been responsible for anything except for myself and my house keys.

And have lost both enough times in the process.

But I didn’t lose Sego Chan.

Not even once. :)

Equal and more than equal

Saturday, May 29th, 2004 at about 7:01 pm

Every one in Norway is equal. Everyone - men, women, kids, your boss, my boss, the guy who salts the snow, the prince, the queen and the king.

Infact everytime someone wants to say stress on equality, they talk about the time in when King Harald took the local t-bane to go places.

He even bought a ticket. Just like me and you, my dog and your bicycle. ( children’s fare applies to the last two)

But there is an exception to everything. - Everyone in Norway is equal except cats.

Cats are the only animal that don?t need to buy a travel ticket! Hmmm.. I wonder why!

Iceland - where people eat sharks.

Saturday, May 29th, 2004 at about 3:11 pm

Gerdur ( you will get to hear a lot about her) had an Icelandic cultural night at her place a while back.

Iceland is a tiny island with 300,000 people ( out of which I know 4) in the middle of the atlantic ocean. The people there eat rotten sharks for food and make really weird movies.

Kidding. .. but not entirely.

Gerdur who was the perfect host that evening had made some authetic icelandic recipies and a special vegetar asparagus, mayo , egg bread cake for me, some more bread cake (brauðterta) for the others ( others included Alex, Eirik, Danil, Andre, Øyvind Jr and senior) and then a choclate cake for every one.

She also served some rotten shark which I didn’t try but did smell and if that was anything to go by.. then I am acutaaly lost for words!

Don’t believe me. Here is the rotten shark recipie.

We watched an Icelandic movie called Djöflaeyjan Devil’s Island which is a really funny-sad comedy about families living in barracks, left by the US Army in Reykjavik at the conclusion of World War II.The old woman and her love for her grand kids, the grand dad who really makes you cry, the jelous snoopy neighbours and the two brothers who are clasic examples of good guy and bad guy - were all etched out wonderfully.

I love dark humour and and this certainly was very good. (Although the opinion varied. )

Men and Cars

Sunday, May 23rd, 2004 at about 2:53 pm

I read Gerdur’s really funny blog about Nice guys - bad guys and could’nt just ‘not’ say anything! And ofcourse I was unable to vote to the nice guy versus bad guy poll either because well -

my question is why only one or one type of guy;) - can’t I order a combo?? ;)

Besides I believe every girl actually needs five!

This is an article I wrote when in school. With a few changes , I think it still holds true!:

—-
Men like women are just like cars . Different types of cars for sure - volvos, porches, BMWs, station wagons, but cars all the same!

However a car alone is like having a dress without the right shoes, the right bag and so on..

If you have the car you will also want and sometimes need a:

The Parking Lot
The Spare Tyre
The Mechanic

and sometimes if you don’t have a car - a cab

The first guy - the Car:

The car is the guy you are currently dating, involved with, the name that comes to mind when you think ’significant other’.

It is perfectly acceptable to wreck the first car you drive. It happens! But I guess after a little driving around all of us realize the type of car we enjoy driving - fast, not fast.. safe, not safe..young, old, a car that reads, car that doesn’t :)

The second guy - spare tyre:

The spare tyre translates in to the perfect guy who likes you a lot! - and you know it and you like him too - but not the same way. But you don’t want to let him go either!

It appears a very selfish addition to the list. But it just means that just in case your car does break down ( and trust me cars like relationships do break down ;) ) - you’re not left alone on a strange road with no way to get home. It’s like a safety net to not being alone. A security blanket - that you take out on nights when you are all alone.

The third guy - the Mechanic:

The mechanic is the guy who, believe it or not, you share an excellent platonic relationship with. A mechanic introduces you to new cars. Listens to you complain about your current car, makes repairs when necessary and makes you feel good and all talked out!

Sometimes you need a guy to understand a guy!

The fourth - the Cab:

Taking a cab is like dating! Some of us just don’t like to drive and some of quite honestly just don’t know how. :-(

It’s too much trouble - checking on it every now and then, taking it to a mechanic, eating dinner with it each night, making sure our friends are’nt always borrowing the car! I mean, sometimes its just easier to just enjoy the ride without worrying about parking space.

Besides - there is so much more choice when it comes to cabs! Nice.. not nice.. slow..fast.. bad;)

The fifth guy - The Parking lot:

The parking lot is the guy you know you want to spend the rest of your life with.

And parking spaces these days are so hard to find. Either they are taken, or located far away from where you want to go or everyone wants the same parking spot.

And even when you do find the perfect spot. It needs to remain occupied long enough or it might not be there when you get back .

But to have you own ‘ car and mechanic and spare and parking space ‘

Like I said before, I don’t know if I want a nice guy or bad guy - so no votes from me! But the above five - all in one - now that would be something!
